Bob, Karon and Holland follow the Mother Road from Chicago to Los Angeles, detouring to Las Vegas and finishing the trip in San Francisco.

Plenty of planning went into this trip. Flights were booked – in to Chicago and out from San Francisco, a hire car, accommodation along the way and tickets/bookings for some of the attractions. It was a pretty full itinerary but we still had time to explore.
Meteor Crater
Next day we stopped by at Meteor Crater for the guided tour. This was one of the prime movers in us deciding to do the trip. The small white area in the middle is the head of an old mine. Test pits dot the area. Again, difficult to scale, but the old mine has a six foot fence around it and the two dark shapes to the left of it are a couple of old tanks (liquid containers) each about 15 feet long.
