Up early to catch the train through the mountains to Lucca. The original town is still surrounded by its huge defensive walls, which a still intact. Inside is a little like going back in time, with plenty of old architecture housing modern shops. Piazza’s and churches abound providing a wealth of opportunities for painters.
A day trip to the walled city of Lucca
The old streets of Lucca
One of the city’s ornate churches
We decided to head to Piazza Anfiteatro
Built around the oval of an old ampitheatre
We sat in the shady side to paint
I needed more time here
Karon's, finished at home
Picture taken by friends from home!
Shapes, windows and shadows
Karon went off shopping for handabgs
As the sun climbed we went in search of lunch
The ‘backstreets’
Later we headed back to meet the others
Going back a different way
We discovered the Torre e Palazzo Guinigi
A strange affair with trees on top!
Karon spotted this banana...
and gates...
and fish!
Meeting place
Time for more sketching
