Returning to Lippstadt after 33 years was odd. There were places that had remained virtually untouched by those years and others that had changed. Overall, I had that comfortable feeling of familiarity but every now and then Lippstadt threw up a challenge to my senses and my memories, in the way some things are changed.

Karon and I took the tandem up to Churchill Barracks, where 27 were stationed. The gun sheds and garages are all gone, but the main blocks are still there, converted into flats for the public – probably too solid to dismantle easily. The parade squares and vehicle parks are now home to new housing or landscaped gardens. The sports field has been turned into a park, complete with skateboard/bmx area and the old SKC Cinema is now a Church.
