Sheriff Robert de Bendyng.
I'm told that we are descended from Stephen de Bendyng – who came to England
with William the Conqueror
and was one of 12 sheriffs enroled to bring 'law and order' to the land.
I can thank one of my C17th forebears for squandering the family
fortune on gambling.... ah! but for the Grace of God....
