A
few riders turned up at Silchester for a gentle ride around the
Roman walls that guard the remains of Calleva. The weather was
kind, providing near perfect conditions considering this was
November. Heading off we cleared Silchester and made our way around
the wall
perimeter to the ampitheatre. A brief stop to read the history
board was followed by another stop at nearby St. Mary's Church
to take a closer look at the wall. From here our ride took us out
into the countryside down relatively quiet lanes. At Bramley we turned
back
toward Silchester,
arriving
at the Calleva Arms just after opening time...for a quiet lunch.
