Two weeks on Santorini, a Greek island half-way between Southern Greece and Turkey and north of Crete which, along with a couple of smaller islands is all that remains of a huge volcano which destroyed itself in 1613BC. Well, almost all that remains, for a new volcano is forming an island in the middle of the flooded caldera and last erupted in 1950.

Many of the facilities were closed for the winter but there were enough eateries open to provide us with lunch every day. In the evenings we ate in our hotel to start with but it was expensive and the menu limited. Food was not always hot either. Not something you expect in a ‘luxury’ hotel. Once we had a car we were a lot less dependent on the hotel.
